Making suggestions for later on details…

One most important thing about sketching I remind people are they are your personal notes to something that may become refined later on. I think a lot of people are apprehensive when it comes to sketching because what they draw doesn’t look exactly what they saw or what they imagine. Bringing and idea to completion takes time. Even the great masters took the time to plan and figure out how to get to the final piece of their work.

Sketching is a lot like note taking. You want to take as much as you can so you can go back to it for reference. You’ll most likely do more sketches after that to refine you idea. Below is a sketch of a droid I thought up quickly in my head. All the lines are merely suggestions of robotic and mechanical parts, nothing very specific, but just a quick and general idea. I can go back to this sketch to refine areas I want to later on to finalize the final idea of the droid. When sketching don’t draw the the details, make a suggestion of them, quick and fast.

Was checking out Spencer’s new blog…sketch a day…and it is so inspiring and something we should all be shooting for, sketching everyday…whatever it is, just keep on pounding the mileage…by the way, if you haven’t picked up Mechanika by Doug Chiang

http://www.amazon.com/Mechanika-Creating-Science-Fiction-Chiang/dp/1600610234/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264032259&sr=8-1

…….please do so immediately!!!

Quick Sketches

Looking around in my Burne Hogarth Book again. He’s Good!

Bunnies

Here’s an idea. If you are stuck and don’t know what to draw, just pick something and try to do many iterations of it. Take it to many levels, push and pull to see what you end up with. Do something to the subject that you normally wouldn’t do to it. This will help you generate ideas while getting mileage you need. Don’t ever get stuck figuring what to draw. It should be spontaneous.

under construction…still sketching…

Hi Everyone,

Please mind the mess as we are working on revamping our site…you will notice text out of place, no sense of graphic design, on and on…but this won’t stop us from sketching…here’s me screwin around still trying to make my own vinyl…screamin chicken, zombie babies, horned things, whatever…and i love the art work for Bioshock 2, reminds me of  my favorite comic book artist/illustrator, Ashley Wood…

Smokin!

Been really inspired by Brian Viveros lately, I definitely want to own some of his art one of these days! Took about 5 underlays to get this one right, its still to heavy in line work, but the body pose feels right. Done on trace paper with razor point, chartpack and a bit of prisma.

Mobile Post Test: Robots

Here is a quick sketch I did while out and about, but wanted to share it with LW’s quickly…so, im testing out the iPhone’s ability to get a nice posting up on wordpress. Sketched this on brown bag paper, took a photo, edited it with the Photoshop Mobile app and uploaded it with the WordPress app. I really want to explore the possibilities of sharing sketches/art/inspiration, quickly and at times when you dont have full computer access! Lets us know what you think… this concpet might become a regular on Lineweights! Enjoy!

tower case

Good morning all! here are some drawings for a computer tower. Not the most innovative product but it was fun to explore materials and textures while drawing. Until next time!

Hill

null

Hey guys, here are the final shots of the finished product. I call it hill, for obvious reasons..hehe. It’s is an interplay of floor, wall, and roof to break up our flat campus. My inspiration was the silicone valley hills that surround us. There is some more stuff on this on my site at fariselmasu.com

SJSU Space

Here is some stuff from this semester. Urban design for SJSU. It was a fun project.

Senior Project Sketches

Its been some time since I had to opportunity to post anything up here.  So, here are some quick sketches and color studies from my portfolio that I did back in school.

Smart Car.

Pretty straight up…time to draw a Smart Car!  They have such cool little personalities,  it makes it easy to capture the character like feel that these cars have.  Used a ultra fine point Sharpie and Pentel Sign Pen to bold up the out side lines.  Keep it loose and free… Enjoy!
