Motorcycle Sketch Demo- 1968 Benelli 175cc

I have been meaning to sketch out my motorcycle (my grandpa’s old bike) for some time now.  I started with just a simple papermate fine point on marker paper with the sketch below.  Feeling out the shapes, silhouette, proportions and placement of each part.  There is lots of room in the engine area, because Benelli used this frame for 4 different size engines (125, 175, 250 and 360cc!).  Click on each image below for the step by step demonstration!

Printer Sketch

Really quick printer sketch… bic ball point black/red on bond paper.

smart truck

What if Smart Car…..made a truck?  While I was working the other day, I stared out the window at a Smart Car and thought….wow, it might be cool if they made a cute little truck.  Make it a bit longer, add a really short bed, could be pretty sweet!  ….no no, not a Isuzu Brat….a Smart Truck!

Wannabe Tagger

At some point in my life I did try to do graffiti. It is the most hardest thing to do. Here was one of my failed attempts.

Senior Project Sketches

Its been some time since I had to opportunity to post anything up here.  So, here are some quick sketches and color studies from my portfolio that I did back in school.

Smart Car.

Pretty straight up…time to draw a Smart Car!  They have such cool little personalities,  it makes it easy to capture the character like feel that these cars have.  Used a ultra fine point Sharpie and Pentel Sign Pen to bold up the out side lines.  Keep it loose and free… Enjoy!

back to basics: syd mead

Since its been a long while since my last post, I felt like I needed to get back to some of my basics to get the ball rolling again.  Also its “back to school”time…it can be really helpful to warm up your school year with some of the basics you learned throughout art school.   I threw on the first Syd Mead Gnomon tutorial video, and sketched along with him.  http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/category/107/Syd-Mead

smoke eater

this is a shotgun blast of some ideation sketches i did for the fore-mentioned creature project jon has showcased.  i came up with a creature that you wore on your neck that would eat second-hand smoke in your environment.  this was a great warm up project that lasted about two weeks.

street sweeper social club

The soundtrack for the Lineweights REVOLUTION has come!

http://streetsweepersocialclub.com/

Our boy Tom Morello has teamed up with MC/Activist/Artist/Front man of The Coup…Boots Riley.   Morello representing the SoCal, Boots from the mean streets of Oakland representing NorCal…join together to spread the word of uprising, change and revolution.  Street Sweeper Social Club is….”more than a band, it’s a social club.”  Love the idea of looking at MUSIC as more than the “individual band”, but more about the SOCIAL group it creates.  Thats the same reason why Lineweights is online!  Enjoy the boombox-tommy gun-earshot!

Liger

Sketched this guy on this crazy old school HP transparencey/ film type paper, that Jon and I picked up from the archives of SJSU ID.  Sweet stuff!  I used prismacolor pencils and Ad Markers on the back of it, to control the pencil/linework on one side, and marker/color on the other.
