Found some old prismacolor pencils…

I was at a garage sale last weekend and noticed this really cool box.  Walked up to check it out and I quickly realized that it was something really cool!  The “prismacolor” writing and funky color boxes on the side attracted my eye.   When I opened the box, I found 6 packs (of a dozen each) of Prismacolor pencils called a “half gross”.  Each box is marked “EAGLE: Thick Lead Color Pencils”…. I opened one of the boxes and found mostly brand NEW prismas!  The wood seemed really hard, and more like real wood.  The Typography on the side, was totally different, much more of the period they are from…im guessing the late 60’s early 70’s ( judging the colors, type and wear of the packaging).

You can cut the back of this packaging off, mail it along with .25 cents to order really early prismacolor markers!

I sharpened a few of them and noticed that the wood was much stronger, the lead alot stronger and really took a good point!

Decided it was time to sketch something out…a few of my favorites from Finding Nemo!  Go Sharks!

Hockey Helmet

Inspiration comes from so many different places, things you see, events in your life….especially when hockey playoff season starts!  Haha! Sketched these, and many other pages out, before going over to Easton Bell for an interview….worked on a few more after the Sharks won a crazy game last night OT.  Gotta work on sketching human heads, get that proportion down….none the less, pretty fun to sketch out!

Printer Sketch

Really quick printer sketch… bic ball point black/red on bond paper.

smart truck

What if Smart Car…..made a truck?  While I was working the other day, I stared out the window at a Smart Car and thought….wow, it might be cool if they made a cute little truck.  Make it a bit longer, add a really short bed, could be pretty sweet!  ….no no, not a Isuzu Brat….a Smart Truck!

star wars @ DMV

While sitting @ DMV for 2+ hours I had lots of time to doodle.  Star Wars always seems to come to mind, so I sketched out some of my favorites!  Only used an extra fine point sharpie, on recycled bond paper that I found @ DMV.

Circles Inside Squares

Recently, Jon and I were asked to teach the Visulaization 1 class @ SJSU Industrial Design.  It is something we both aspiring to do someday in the future…and that future is now.  We are now 3 weeks into the class and the students seem to be responding really well, and bring a positive attitude to class everyday.  Hopefully from their point of view we are able to connect, communicate, educate and inspire.  I felt like the Circles Inside Squares demo was a great spot to start with our new posts for the class (as several other components that we have taught already appear here on LW’s).  Enjoy!

First, sketch this out on a sheet of paper, cut it out and fold it up into a 6 sided cube.

Now, using your cube…sketch out what you see.  Play with Perspective Views, View Angle, Eye Level of the cube…and then freehand the ellipses on each showing side of the cube!
